Why did Eggman and Bowser even expect to be invited to the Olympics when they should know they’re infamous for being villains, who aren’t even from the world where the Olympics takes place, so they shouldn’t even be known by them? This has to take place in a world that not only has the Olympics but is also aware of both of them. The story’s always boring because its pacing is sluggish and Toad does so much of the talking. it’s thoroughly unengaging.
I’m not gonna describe the plot, just the problems, because no one likes the plot and there’s nothing to care about in it plot-wise. Why did Toad ever think that obvious fog monsters were Mario and Sonic? Why’d he think Sonic and Tails were evil when they looked nothing like the fog monsters he realized weren’t them? Dry Bowser calls fog poor and defenseless, thinking he’s not the bad guy for protecting it.
At first it doesn’t make sense because fog isn’t a living creature, but it could be explained by him being brainwashed by Kamek or just sarcastic. It’s interesting dialogue instead of him only being motivated by spite for the Mario characters like you’d expect. Instead he thinks he’s the good guy like anyone else. Why did he think telling them not to touch the fog machine would stop them from jumping on it to destroy it? Why did Dry Bowser run away instead of trying to fight them?
Why did it take SO LONG to get to Sonic and Tails, when they’re far more appealing characters? That’s why Sonic got popular! Sonic and Tails should’ve been the main characters the whole time, not Toads and Omochao who nobody likes. Seeing a yellow Toad confused me into thinking they would switch Toads constantly. Why would he be there if that isn’t the case then? Tails’ dialogue is just generic and boring stuff, and I can’t imagine why Sonic is implied to be talking when we don’t see his dialogue.
Why in the world was he not allowed to talk? If they’re gonna do that they never should’ve implied he was talking so that I can’t even assume he’s got laryngitis to explain him not talking. Sonic’s the character who would have actually interesting dialogue. It has to be that Nintendo forced this on the game to prevent Sonic’s character from overshadowing everyone else, and getting people to realize how boring they are. I can’t imagine this being something the writer of the game wanted.
Why did Tails mistake fog monsters for Mario and Luigi? Why is there a cutscene with a random Boo being whined at by King Boo until Sonic gets to him? We have no reason to care about their conversation. It’s there to fill Sonic and Tails in on exposition, so that’s the point but it goes on way too long when we have no reason to care about these flat characters. When Tails tells Sonic, “ No wait “ why did he attack the fog machine instead of ask him why he said that?
For all he knew he was gonna warn him that attacking the machine would backfire. It was interesting to see Daisy talk at first because I never saw her do a lot of talking before, but I started getting bored by the time she met some fog monsters, because she never displays a personality. Where’s her tomboy personality? It’s only there because of how she’s dressed which is justified by where she is anyways.
But if she did act more tomboyish, by being short-tempered and gung-ho about fighting or competition, she’d be acting like Amy who should also be acting like that in this game more because she’d at least display a personality. Daisy IS a lot like Amy, really. There’s nothing interesting about the dialogue of Peach and Blaze either. It seems like most of the dialogue of the characters could be put in the mouths of any characters in the game and you wouldn’t see anything off.
The closest Blaze comes to being in-character is when she tells Toads that cowering will accomplish nothing, because it has her speak with authority in a blunt way which you would expect from royalty. How did Amy and Daisy end up knocked out? Amy’s famous for having a hammer. And while she’s not holding it, she summons it any time she needs it. Why would she go anywhere without her hammer? She never knows when Eggman might attack. You’d think she’d always have a sash around her shirt so she could have her hammer tucked into it.
Why is Rouge talking like a villain? Oh she wonders what she was doing here, she got brainwashed. Then why didn’t every other hero get brainwashed? And why was she specifically brainwashed? Why not Sonic? It should’ve been explained that they have brainwashing pollen but they have barely any of it. I like THIS part of the story because Toad and Omochao aren’t in it. I thought the entire game would be that. And then Toad just has to go up to them. Why do icons keep showing up over their heads?
At least Rouge was here because she was admiring treasures. She’s the only character with a character so far. I thought she was here to participate in the Olympics out of nowhere like everyone else, when I was never told the Sonic characters liked sports. Why is the fog a different color depending on the area? It’s good for variety, but why would the villains put in that extra effort? IF Yoshi’s talking in his own language Pokemon anime style, why can Tails understand him? Why can everyone else?
It’s not just Tails because he expects other people to understand him and doesn’t translate for Sonic. Yoshi not really speaking in English is just convoluted nonsense. Shadow wouldn’t call Jet “ the legendary wind master. “ He’s got no reason to flatter him, and yet he does twice. He says he’s not terrible when I’d expect him to completely leave Jet in the dust in a foot race. Other than that his character isn’t any worse than the others in this game.
It’s smart of Jet to wanna steal the fog machine to make money off it. So he’s got character too. Bowser Junior has character but it’s annoying enough to destroy my interest in his cutscenes. He’s short, why would they think he was Bowser, why did Yoshi think that? Why did it take so long for Mario and Sonic to join each other in a game called Mario and Sonic? If the fog monsters of Mario and Sonic are standing right behind Toad for such a long time why do they wait so long to, challenge them to activities?
I keep expecting them to only wanna fight, because that’s what the goals of Eggman and Bowser ARE. When Toad runs into someone why does he say “ don’t mention it, “ when it’s Eggman Nega who’s saying that? He’s evil, why would someone who wanted to turn the world into a card not be mean to someone for bumping into him? There’s people who will curse you out for doing that, they’re that immature. The story never explains why he’s even here instead of in the future or another universe.
Why did Metal Sonic damage some binoculars that don’t even belong to a Sonic character? He doesn’t just do evil things for no reason. Why did he expect a robot to pay for the damages? I can’t believe they made Waluigi forgettable. He’s not wacky enough. He looks through binoculars but it’s not memorable why, he’s just scheming for no apparent reason. At least Wario’s in-character because he’s caring about making money, to the point where later on he gets bribed by Waluigi.
Wow, it was unexpectedly brilliant of Eggman to have a hologram of a fog machine. Wait why doesn’t he do that more often? And it’s too bad it made a part of the plot a waste of time! Why does Eggman think people would think of Wario as a crook and see Eggman as the hero for chasing him away? Why would Eggman say he’s a gentle soul? Wario says back in a flash and walks away and I start wondering why Metal Sonic doesn’t go after him instinctively.
Wario uses his sense of smell to find the fog machine somehow. I didn’t know he had a superhuman sense of smell. It seems like a Deus ex Machina so he’d find it faster. It makes about as much sense as, Mario jumping really high, but I’m pretty sure it came outta nowhere. They’re regular humans! So why would they be born with special powers? And if Donkey Kong has his own language, why is anyone understanding him? It’s just more convoluted nonsense.
Donkey Kong still has his character because he’s obsessed with bananas. And Omega’s in-character. I don’t see why Omega didn’t retain any memory of being reprogrammed. I don’t know why his reprogramming is undone as easily as removing something that was put in him. Eggman would just change his coding directly. Why is Bowser the one challenging Sonic instead of Mario, LOGICALLY? He hates Mario the most. Toad says Donkey Kong’s as reliable as ever.
This confused me because he’s never helping Mario or any of his friends in the games. In fact Donkey Kong being there confused me right away because he’s got his OWN franchise, and whenever he IS in the Mario games, he’s the villain. And it’s a crossover so it’s trying to use him to promote DK games, but it makes as much sense as Metal Sonic being called one of the heroes. How is the fog going out of Eggman’s control? He’s a genius.
The one thing he’s good at is technology, but this is just giving me Metal Virus flashbacks. Why does Cream get fooled by the imposters? How is everyone color blind? How is Omega able to recover memories of when he was reprogrammed? Why is Kamek challenging the heroes to an Olympic event instead of using magic on them? Why would he risk losing? At least he tries to use magic on Omega and takes off instead of telling them stuff like he expected.
This is a guy who can turn things giant, why didn’t he make himself giant and step on them? The fog’s denser now. How does OMEGA KNOW that enough exposure to the thicker fog would result in short-circuits? The fog DIDN’T thin. If he’s feeling better, why did his legs give out? It’s realistic that it happened to him from exhaustion after walking the whole game. But then why didn’t the OTHER characters get exhausted?
I hope Knuckles and Amy are still doing useful things offscreen because it’d make no sense for them not to, but it’s the final episode, so I doubt it. So why aren’t they WITH Sonic? Oh it’s cool that Eggman powered himself up. It’s one step away from him going Super. The fact that some people would say him going Super is crazy fanfiction material, unless the movie does it, makes it gutsy that he did this. This was such a good thing that I had to mention it.
I hate that it shows scenes from characters other than Sonic after this when nothing’s going ON with them. We didn’t need to see there’s no fog around them, when it’s nothing but boring dialogue, and nothing happening. It turns out Eggman and Bowser WERE invited to the Olympics and didn’t know it for a reason that was too confusing to be memorable. Must have been invited out of fear.
So that plot sucked. This is the most boring story in Sonic history because it’s so dragged out and characterless most of the time, even though it does have a new thing in needing to destroy fog machines to progress. Unfortunately if you were looking forward to a plot where the Mario and Sonic characters interact extensively to learn how they are different from each other and similar to each other, you know, the game actually taking advantage of the crossover, you’ll be disappointed.
Bowser and Eggman teamed up to sabotage the Olympics. Why did they team up instead of hating each other and having disdain for each other for being the exact opposite of each other, why did they team up when they’re both too egotistical to wanna share rulership with each other? They’re too different from each other, to agree on everything. If they were both ruling a kingdom, one of them would implement a law, that would be disagreed with.
It doesn’t even make sense that they WOULD wanna sabotage the Olympics. Eggman Nega has a point that he’d prefer intellectual pursuits over that so why isn’t Eggman like that? It’s just as Out of Character for Bowser, ‘cause he doesn’t do stuff just because of sadism either, or else he’d do a lot more things, to cause a lot more plots.
